LOOK LIKE A STAR
HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR HOLLYWOOD PORTRAIT
Watch lots of classic Hollywood movies for several weeks before your photo-shoot to get in the “Hollywood mood” and channel your inner Star.
THE SEXY SQUINT
Practice the “sexy squint” in front of a mirror daily. The Stars of early Hollywood had no choice but to take the heat and the brightness of the tungsten movie lights that were used by the photographers then. Today with flash it is much easier for the model to look into the camera, with the eyes wide open, but the feeling of mystery is getting lost. So practice the “sexy squint” every chance you get, every time you are in front of a mirror. I usually crank the modelling light (a low power continuous light) on the key light (the light that shines on your face) to bring out that squint a bit.
DRESS LIKE A STAR
Wear something really classy, a suit and tie for men, or a nice shirt and tie.
For women an evening gown and sparkly jewelry is the ideal. Preferably mid tone colors, nothing too dark, please stay away from blacks unless it is a reflective fabric like silk, leather or some synthetics. Piercings also were not common back in the golden age of Hollywood, so please don’t wear them on your photo-shoot.
Hollywood was very much a fantasy so please be playful, creative, allow yourself to pretend you are a BIG STAR and you will be surprised that you will actually look like one…
